Salt and Our Health

Salt is essential for human health and human body, but excess amounts of salt can cause some health problems. We often wonder how much salt we should have and how to control the amounts of salt we consume. Read below to find the answer of these questions.

Typically, the average adults needs 4,2 g of salt every day. The minimum amount required is 1,5 g. Health organizations recommend a maximum intake of 6 g per day for adults and even less for children. However, at the moment the average adult has about 10-12 grams of salt every salt.

It is possible to limit the intake of salt by following some tips. First of all, you should choose fresh foods and prepare them without using salt. To flavour foods, choose lemon, garlic, vinegar, onion and herbs.

Another way is to prepare your own sauces and soups, and not to use ready ones which typically contain lots of salt. Also, don’t use salt when you bake, make pasta or cook vegetables.

Purchase unsalted crackers, nuts and snacks and try to use products with reduced amounts of sodium. Limit or avoid the consumption of salty ketchups, pickles, say sauce, barbecue sauce, salsa and other types of sauces.

The most important thing you should achieve is to enjoy all kinds of foods without putting salt in them. One way to do this is not put any salt at the table.

Limited consumption of salt can be easily achieved if you are consistent and ready to do it. You may believe food tastes better with salt but this is just because the taste buds are accustomed to this.  Avoid excess salt to improve your health.
